The women's volleyball team completed the 1st semester of OCAA action on Saturday December 3rd with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Centennial Colts.  Let's take a look back at the semester that was for the Wolves.

Algonquin had one of the toughest schedules in the East, starting the season with 5 straight road games.  Their season kicked off at Durham on October 21st with a tough 3-0 loss to the Lords who are currently undefeated.  The team would bounce back to take 3 of the next 4 matches to improve their record to 3-2 before their 1st home game of the season.  Wolves fans finally got a chance to cheer on their team on November 11th and 12th when the team hosted a rematch with the Lords on Friday and a first date with the George Brown Huskies on Saturday.  Home opening weekend saw some of the best crowds the ARC has seen all season, and coach Everton Senior's group seemed to feed off of the energy.  They gave the undefeated Lords a scare winning the 1st set and nearly taking the 2nd set.  The Wolves eventually fell 3-1 with 3 of the 4 sets ending with a difference of 4 points or less.  The loss dropped the team's record to 3-3 which made Saturday's game with George Brown that much more important as these two teams will be jockeying for playoff position all season long.  Algonquin eventually came away with their biggest win of the year 3-2 over the Huskies.  The Wolves dropped their final road game of the first semester to Canadore before finishing strong at home beating the Fleming Knights and Centennial Colts 3-0.

With a 6-4 record Algonquin currently sits in 5th place in the OCAA East standing and are ranked 10th in the OCAA overall rankings.

The Wolves have gotten significant contributions from their returning players.

Maddy Nadeau is leading the team in points per set at 3.3 on 2.47 kills, 0.50 aces, and 0.34 blocks.  She is also contributing 1.06 digs.  The 2nd year left side had one of her biggest games against George Brown, finishing with 19 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs.  Nadeau was named OCAA East Rookie of the Year in 2022 and is following it up with an impressive 2022-23 campaign.

4th year middle Kristina Renwick is right behind Nadeau averaging 3.1 points per set on 1.91 kills, 0.14 aces, and 0.63 blocks to go along with 0.54 digs.  Renwick was also a force against the Huskies finishing with 9 kills, 3 aces, and 6 blocks.

2nd year left side Faith Billaney is having a big year for the Wolves averaging 2.7 points per set on 1.85 kills, 0.67 aces and 0.21 blocks to go along with 1.12 digs.  Billaney had an impressive performance in the rematch against Durham finishing with 17 kills, 3 aces, 3 blocks, and 4 digs.

Algonquin has also benefited from the performance of 1st year middle Kristen Hacker.  #4 is averaging 1.36 kills, 0.52 aces and 0.28 blocks per set.  Unfortunately she missed the last 3 games of the semester.  The team hopes to have her back in the lineup in the new year.

The 2nd semester will be an important one for the Wolves as they look to move up in the standings in order to host a crossover game in late February to put themselves in the best position to qualify for the OCAA final 8 hosted by Sheridan College from February 23rd to 25th.

The team will be back in action on January 14th in Peterborough when they take on the Fleming Knights.  You can catch them at home as early as Friday January 20th when they host the Seneca Sting at 6:00 PM at the ARC.
