Basil Phillips
Title: Head Coach
Email: phillib@algonquincollege.com

Basil has been at the helm of the Algonquin women’s soccer program since the 2018 season. He found early success with a 18-4-5 overall record in his first 2 seasons, including back to back trips to the OCAA championship tournament.  After the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the 2020 and 2021 seasons for Algonquin, coach Phillips and the newly named Wolves were back on the pitch in 2022 and 2023.

Basil, now in his 7th year in charge, is looking towards his 5th season on the pitch in 2024.  He is working to continue to build the program, instilling the values of team cohesiveness, hard work and commitment to both soccer and academics in developing a complete student athlete.  He strives to maintain and expand on the winning tradition of the program.

Basil has extensive experience on the pitch with over 36 years as both a player and as a coach. As a player, Basil spent five years as a member of the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team, achieving OUA All-Star status and finishing among the top five goal scorers in Canada during his final two seasons with the team. He has maintained his connection with his alma mater over the years, giving back to the organisation by serving first as the vice-president and later the president of the Carleton Soccer Alumni Association.
As a coach, Basil has worked with athletes of all ages and genders, spending time affiliated with Europro Soccer, Parmar Sports Training, the Carleton Ravens, the Ottawa Falcons SC, and the West Ottawa Soccer Club. During his time coaching, he has experienced much success with League titles, Tournament championships, League cup success, and Playoff appearances and championships.  In his first four seasons with Algonquin his teams have collected a 33-11-9 overall record including back to back OCAA ¼ Finals appearances.
