WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEAT FANSHAWE TO EARN A SPOT IN THE QUARTER-FINAL

It was a crisp night at the Algonquin Sports Field when the OCAA soccer qualifying round kicked-off between the visiting Fanshawe Falcons and the home Algonquin Wolves.  There was a lot on the line, with the winner earning a spot in the quarter-final and a chance to take on the Humber Hawks who had defeated the Cambrian Shield earlier in the day.  Fanshawe entered the game in 7th in the OCAA West with a 3-5-2 record.  As for the Wolves, they earned the 2nd seed in the East after finishing 9-1-0.

Algonquin was able to strike 1st in the 35th minute.  When the Fanshawe keeper made a diving save off a Mallory Armstrong strike.  Wolves leading scorer Alex Aubin was able to find the rebound and deposit it into the back of the net.  The Wolves went into the locker room with a 1-nil lead.

Early in the 2nd half Danika Mader was able to double the Wolves lead.  Alex Aubin slipped a ball past the Falcons defense to Mader who made no mistake getting it past the keeper.  Aubin would continue her big day.  In the 53rd minute she found herself in the right place at the right time once again, cashing in on a rebound from another Mallory Armstrong shot to extend the lead to 3-nil.  Aubin completed her 1st hat trick of the season in the 60th minute, this time benefiting from a beautiful pass from Liana Farrell that sent her in alone.  The Wolves would hold on to secure the 4-nil win and a spot in the quarter-final.

Next up is a date with the Humber Hawks on Saturday October 18th at 12:00 pm at the Algonquin Sports Field.  Make sure to secure your seats at the link below:
