WOMEN’S SOCCER REMAINS UNDEFEATED AFTER 3-0 WIN OVER LOYALIST

The Algonquin Wolves women's soccer team extended their perfect start to the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Loyalist Lancers in Belleville on Wednesday night. The Wolves entered the matchup riding a five-game win streak and tied for first place in the OCAA East Division.

It took just two minutes for Algonquin to strike. Jasmine Young slipped a perfect through ball behind the Lancer defense, springing Alex Aubin in alone. Aubin calmly slotted her finish past the keeper to open the scoring and give the Wolves an early 1-0 lead.

The Wolves continued to dominate possession and kept the Lancers pinned in their own half. Their sustained pressure paid off in the 11th minute when a corner kick forced Loyalist to defend deep. Aubin rose above her mark and buried the header home for her second of the night, to make it 2-0. Less than 10 minutes later, another Wolves corner proved costly for the Lancers as Danika Mader was left unmarked at the far post and powered in another header to make it 3-0.

From there, Algonquin controlled the tempo, keeping Loyalist at bay to close out the 3-0 clean sheet to improve to 6-0 on the campaign. Paige King had a quiet evening, only needing to make 2 saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

With her 2 goals, Aubin now sits at 10 goals on the season, just one shy of the league's scoring leader. Kassandra Da Kruz also added her fifth assist of the year, tying her for second in the OCAA.

The Wolves are now firmly positioned in the playoff picture with four matches remaining. They return home Saturday, September 27th to face the Fleming Phoenix (0-5), a team Algonquin defeated 8-0 earlier in the season. The Wolves will then head to Toronto for back-to-back fixtures that could decide the division title. First they clash with the Seneca Sting on Saturday, October 4th, followed by a showdown with the Centennial Colts on Sunday, October 5th. All three teams are currently undefeated and share the top spot in the East Division, meaning these matchups will most likely decide the order of the top 3 seeds heading into the playoffs.
