WOLVES TAKE DOWN LORDS TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

The Wolves women's basketball team took on the Durham Lords on Friday night in front of an energetic crowd at the Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre.  Algonquin was looking to sweep the season series over the Lords after winning in Oshawa back on November 15th.

The Wolves got off to a hot start building a 7-0 lead and forcing an early Lords timeout.  4th year guard Sydney Moore knocked down two from downtown to help build the lead.  Shortly after the break Moore knocked down her 3rd 3 of the game to extend the lead to 10.  The Arnprior, ON native is beginning to make a habit of starting hot, going 3 / 4 in the first quarter last week against Centennial and 3 / 3 this week.  Algonquin continued to pour it on offensively finishing the quarter with a 27-8 lead.

Play evened out in the 2nd quarter, but the Wolves maintained a comfortable 44-26 lead.  Ciannah Miller and Sydney Moore were the top 1st half performers with 10 and 9 points each.  The biggest story of the half offensively was the Wolves efficiency behind the arc, shooting 83.3%..

The Lords came out of the half with a chip on their shoulder and ultimately outscored the Wolves 15-14 in the frame, however the 4th quarter was all Algonquin who cruised to a 75-42 win.

Sydney Moore and Ciannah Miller each finished with 12 points and 5 assists.  Dasia McDonald, who was banged up throughout the game, had 8 points and 6 assists.  Libby Hirst was solid collecting 7 points and 8 rebounds.  Kate Dahmer and Jessica De Haan were big off the bench adding 7 points and 5 rebounds each.

The Wolves improved their record to 9-0.  Next up for the squad is a big road weekend against Seneca on Friday January 24th and Georgian on Saturday January 25th.  Georgian gave the Wolves their closest game of the season back on November 1st in a low scoring 47-42 contest.
