The Wolves women's basketball team had a perfect first half of the season finishing the semester with an undefeated 7-0 record. They are currently ranked 1st in the OCAA overall rankings and 5th in the CCAA national rankings. Let's take a look back at the semester that was.
The team ran through the OCAA East in the first semester beating their opponents by an average of 25 points. They hung their hat on their defense giving up just under 42 points per game, best in the OCAA by more than 23 points. On November 24th the Wolves traveled to Barrie to take on the Georgian Grizzlies in a highly anticipated East matchup. Both teams had perfect records going into the contest. Algonquin managed to come away with a 67-54 road win. They took down Seneca 60-47 the next day to finish the first semester unbeaten.
A lot of players are having solid individual seasons, but two sit in the top 5 of an OCAA statistical category. 3rd year Forward Libby Hirst is 3rd in the league in rebounding at 10.1 per game. 3rd year guard Dasia McDonald is 1st in the league in field goal percentage at 55.6% and 1st in steals with 5.6 per game. The 2022-23 All-Canadian is having another impressive season averaging 15.3 points and 3.9 assists per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds.
The Wolves will be back to OCAA action on Friday January 12th when they host the Seneca Sting. They will be looking to put together another solid semester before entering the OCAA Playoffs in mid February.
