On Saturday October 18th, the Sheridan Bruins visited the Algonquin Sports Field to take on the Wolves in the OCAA quarter-final. The winning team would punch their ticket to the OCAA Final 4 and the loser would see their season come to an end. A Wolves win would make Algonquin the host of the 2025 OCAA Men's Soccer Final 4.
Prior to the game, the OCAA league awards were handed out. Azeez Al-Hammood was given his East All-Rookie and 2nd Team All-Star award. Nick Parry and Shawn-Allen Guillaume also received their 2nd Team All-Star certificates. Cristian Aviles-Molina received his East 1st Team All-Star award. Alessandro Vivolo was awarded his OCAA Player of the Year, East Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Star and Scoring Champion awards. Last but not least, captain Cristian Aviles-Molina stepped up to receive the OCAA East Champions plaque for the 2nd straight season.
Sheridan and Algonquin met in the OCAA semi-final back in 2024 with the Wolves coming away with a 3-2 win. This game would prove to be just as even. The score was tied nil-nil until the 57th minute when Alessandro Vivolo was taken down leading to a free kick. Alaa Mahfouz sent a ball off the free kick into the box and Alix Basa was able to connect with Cristian Aviles-Molina who scored the biggest goal of the year for his team.
The Bruins made a push and had some chances to tie but the Wolves defense came up big and were able to hang on for a 1-nil win.
The Wolves will continue to take advantage of home field advantage in the Final 4. They will get things started on Saturday at 12:00 pm when they take on the Conestoga Condors. A win would not only earn them a spot in the gold medal match, but it will also punch their ticket to nationals with the OCAA benefiting from a wildcard bid this season.
