
September 19th vs Cambrian
Our Wolves men's soccer team entered the weekend in the top spot of the OCAA East standings and ranked 2nd in the CCAA national rankings. The team has been dominant out of the gate with a 4-0 record. On Friday they faced their toughest test yet in the Cambrian Shield who entered the weekend at 1-1-1 after having played the 2nd and 3rd place teams in Centennial and Seneca in back to back games.
After not being able to capitalize on a few quality chances, Algonquin was able to get on the board in the 17th minute when #7 Alix Basa scored his 4th of the season. Cambrian would tie things up in the 38th minute off the foot of Joshua Vivero. The teams would go into halftime tied at 1 a piece.
The flood gates finally opened in the 2nd half with the Wolves scoring 5 unanswered goals to win the match 6-1. #8 Alessandro Vivolo scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season in the 59th and 62nd minutes. #9 Gershom Dupuy scored the next two in the 64th and 82nd minutes. Rookie striker Noah Mayard scored his 1st OCAA goal in the 88th minute to finish things off.
September 20th vs Lakehead Orillia
Saturday the Wolves welcomed the Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves to the Algonquin Sports Field. Lakehead is making their OCAA soccer debut this season and were coming into Ottawa on a high note after defeating the St. Lawrence Surge 1-nil the night before to earn their 1st victory in program history.
The Wolves proved to be too much for the Thunderwolves earning a 12-nil victory. #9 Gershom Dupuy and #17 Azeez Al-Hammood each scored a hat trick. Alix Basa, Alessandro Vivolo, Alaa Mahfouz, Alton Gaspard, Abdul Al-Hammood and Noah Mayard scored the remaining 6 goals for Algonquin.
The Wolves improved to 6-0 and hold sole possession of 1st place in the OCAA East. The Algonquin roster are all over the OCAA leaderboards. Alessandro Vivolo, Gershom Dupuy, Azeez Al-Hammood and Alix Basa are 1st, 2nd and 4th on the goal leader list with 13, 7, 5 and 5 goals respectively. Alix Basa, Cassius Miron, Alton Gaspard, and Alessandro Vivolo hold the top 4 spots on the OCAA assist list with 6, 5, 4 and 4 each.
