A historic 2024 Algonquin Wolves men's soccer season has come to an end with a 1-0 loss to the Humber Hawks in the CCAA National Championship game. The Wolves battled hard for a full 90 minutes but unfortunately couldn't find the equaliser. First year midfielder Dalen Comeau earned player of the game honours. Cristian Aviles-Molina, Connor David and Olivier Langlois were named to the tournament All-Star team.
Despite the loss, this team has a lot to be proud of. OCAA East Champions, OCAA Best Defensive Team, OCAA Provincial Silver Medalists, and CCAA National Silver Medalists is no average season.
The silver marks the first CCAA medal in the Wolves era for all varsity sports combined. As for the men's soccer program, they earned their 6th CCAA silver and 9th overall medal at the National Championship.
Throughout their playoff run, Wolves fans were treated to some exciting moments, including a come from behind OCAA ¼ Final win over Fanshawe. A 3-2 OCAA ½ Final win over Sheridan that saw the Wolves survive a later Bruins push. A 2-0 CCAA ¼ Final win over a hot Champlain Saint-Lambert team. Last but not least a come from behind 2-1 win in the CCAA ½ Final over Langara that saw graduating senior Connor David score both Wolves goals. This is a season we won't soon forget.
The future is bright for the program with only 4 players set to graduate this spring. We look forward to watching the team carry the momentum of this year into the 2025 season.
